Bethel Development Corporation's mission is: "To create opportunities to effect a positive change in the life of the under served and underpriviledged of our community. To provide services that will enhance the lives of those citizens who have limited access to services. To build a stronger and healthier community spiritually, physically, and emotionally".

Bethel Development Corporation was formed to create opportunities and to effect a positive change in the lives of the underprivileged of our community. Also to provide services that will enhance the lives of those citizens who have limited access to services. Finally, the Bethel Development Corporation is committed to building a stronger and healthier community spiritually, physically and emotionally by providing the following programs: 

  • Employment and Training
    Providing career planning, resume writing, job searches, job coaching, mentoring and a variety of support services to help those who are unemployed and underemployed become efficient and reliable workers in society

  • Sanction Outreach
    Provides information and referral services to individuals and families who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

  • Bethel AME Church Soup KitchenSoup Kitchen (Everybody Eats)
    Hot, home-cooked meals are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 12 Noon to 2 PM. No referral is neccesary.

  • Food Pantry
    Available on Wednesdays only from 12 noon to 2 PM. Produce is available on Tuesdays based on availability. No referral is neccesary.

  • Education (Each One, Teach One)
    A GED readiness program specializing in: tutoring, secondary education, training and the ACCUplacer (college placement test).

 

  • Safe Haven
    After-school tutoring and homework helper is available is available as part of Millville’s Weed & Seed Program. Registration is required.


  • Neighborhood Services
    Assistance is available through NJ SHARES for gas and electric for individuals who do no quailfy for other low income assistance programs. (By appointment only) 
    LIHEAP (Low Income Heating Assistance)
    Assistance for gas, electric and/or oil is available for those who are found in or under the Federal poverty level.

  • Substance Abuse Support Services
    Assessment, transportation and Case Management services are available through the NJ Access initiative for those who are struggling with either opiate abuse, crack or cocaine addiction. Recovery Mentors are also available to help individuals who are struggling with recovery to become and remain clean. As Transition Coordinators, we provide technical assistance to NJAI provider agencies as well as to trained Recovery Mentors for Southern New Jersey.

  • Street Reach
    Conducting street outreach in order to help at-risk youth and families in high crime areas.


  • CWEP Work Site (Community Work Experience Program)
    General assistance, food stamp and temporary assistance for needy family recipients who have to work to continue receiving their checks are able to work in our Millville complex.( Availability of positions vary). Participants will be given job training and receive letters of recommendation upon successful completion of their services.

  • Community Service
    Individuals who are required to perform community service as a condition of probation or parole may be asigned to us fulfill their community service requirement. Positions vary.
