Employment and Training

In 2004, Bethel received their first grant from Cumberland County establishing them as one of 9 satellite locations that would provide services in conjunction with the One Stop Career Center. During this time, Bethel exceeded the goal of the program by 500% assisting a total of 125 individuals to find full-time employment. During 2005, as part of the agreement with the County to keep the computer lab equipment, Bethel was required to provide the same services as in 2004 and again exceeded the goal by 125%. This began the ongoing collaboration that now exists between the Cumberland County One Stop Career Center and Bethel Development Corporation. Bethel’s current employment and training program provides career planning, resume writing, job searches, and job coaching. In addition, our team of case managers provides one-on-one services assisting individuals in overcoming the barriers that keep them from becoming gainfully employed or maintaining their existing employment. Additionally, classes are offered in: customer service, time management, goal setting, life skills, financial literacy and budgeting, computer classes as well as career exploration. These classes help members of the community to gain confidence and increase their skills so that they are better equipped to compete in the current job market. Bethel also provides hands on training in food service through our soup kitchen and in housekeeping. Our computer lab is open Monday through Friday from 9AM – 4:30PM. Appointments are recommended to ensure that personalized attention is given to each participant in assessing their needs and training requirements.

Sponsored by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) to offer individuals in need of One-Stop Career Center services increased access through partnerships with community and faith based organizations. This initiative will expand the reach of the One-Stop Career Centers to underserved populations by providing guided, self-service venues complementary to and in concert with the full-service offerings at the existing One-Stop Career Centers. The employer community is critical to the project's success in placing customers in employment.
